I was able to capture some images of a new model Volvo XC90 T8 plug-in-hybrid vehicle on display recently. Besides a complete vehicle to look at, Volvo included a cut-away vehicle showing the hybrid components of the XC90. My April article in Firehouse Magazine will explain about the challenges we face trying to identify this vehicle at a crash or fire scene.
This 2015 Volvo XC90 T8 plug-in hybrid clearly shows the power charging port on the driver’s front fender. This is one of only two exterior identifiers that this vehicle is in fact a hybrid.
This display of the plug-in hybrid components of the XC90 T8 TWIN ENGINE vehicle shows the 2-liter gasoline engine (left) that drives the front wheels. The 270-400volt lithium-ion battery runs along the centerline of this SUV (shown in orange). At the rear of the XC90 hybrid is the 60 kW electric motor that drives the rear wheels.
